The Educational Neuroscience Lab at the University of Graz has the following open PhD position for 4 years (grant project position, 30 hours/week) starting at the 1st of May 2023:
Neurocognitive mechanisms of metacognition in arithmetic
In this bilateral research project β funded by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF) and the Research Foundation Flanders (FWO) β we will use behavioral and neuroimaging methods (electroencephalography, EEG) to investigate the mechanisms that support metacognitive abilities in the context of arithmetic problem solving and learning.
Findings from this research projects will provide new insights into the neurocognitive mechanisms of metacognitive regulation and their relevance for arithmetic learning. The gained knowledge will be of high relevance and interest to scientists and educators who work in the domain of mathematics. This research project is managed and supervised by Prof. Stephan Vogel (University of Graz, Austria) and Prof. Bert De Smedt (Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium).
As a PhD student you will be involved in all parts of the project. Your responsibility is to conduct research experiments, to analyze empirical data and to publish them in peer-reviewed journals. You will be supervised by the principal investigator (Stephan Vogel) and supported by an individual research assistant. During the project, several meetings with our project partner from Belgium (Bert De Smedt) will be organized. You will be able to enroll in the national PhD program at the Institute of Psychology, University of Graz.
