Neurodebian VM with MNE and MNE-Python instsalled

Dear list,

for a forthcoming MNE-Python workshop in Paris (November 5 and 12) I've
updated our Neurodebian virtual machine and added a few data sets.

This VM includes:
- 32 bit Neurodebian
- MNE command line tools
- MNE-Python stable version
- Pysurfer (github sources)
- MNE-sample data, MNE-somato data, MNE spm-faces data
- MNE-Python github sources (set to the 0.8 maintenance branch).

To run it download Virtualbox (https://www.virtualbox.org/) and import the
image as appliance.

When you open "spyder" from the terminal it will start an IPython session
in /opt/mne-python which allows you to run the MNE examples locally like
"run examples/{script-of-choice}.py

If you want to look at the source codes mentioned, under the home directory
you will find the github repository.

Depending on your feedback we might want to put it on an MGH server to make
it officially available and updated it with every release.
Comments, suggestions and feedback are appreciated.

Dear list,

thanks for your interest and feedback.
We just uploaded an improved version of the virtual machine to the MGH
server:

Thanks Martin Luessi!

Enjoy and best,

Hi Experts,
I opened the Neurodebian.
But the window is too small.
I need to install GuestAdditions of the virtualbox, but failed.
Please sell the following pic.
1. The virtual box window is small and do not enlarge it.
2. When I try to install the Guest additions, such error raise.

Anyone has ideas about the problem?
Thank you very much!

Best wishes,
Junpeng

Hi Junpeng,

That should be the default as described on the NeuroDebian pages:

http://neuro.debian.net/vm.html

Best,
Denis

Hello Junpeng,

VirtualBox can not find the guest additions. You can install it in the
guest (NeuroDebian) with:
sudo apt-get install virtualbox-ose-guest-x11

Cheers,
Christof

Thank you,Christof,
I followed the command and the reponse is : my system is latest version.

I restart the VM, and find the VM windows still can not run at seamless mode (the VM run in a small window and can not be enlarged in full screen mode. Since MNE creates many pictures, such tiny window can not hold them).

Anyone have the same problem and how to solve it?

Best wishes,
Junpeng

Hello,

you may have a "broken" vbox kernel module, maybe caused by a kernel
update. Can you check, if your guest has loaded any vbox module:
lsmod | grep vbox

There should some hits like vboxguest and vboxvideo. If not, you have to
reinstall the guest additions. Usually you need the build-essential and
linux-headers for your kernel version, too.

Cheers,
Christof
