ICA - ECG Components

Hi everyone, I have another question about ICA.

I am working with EEG recordings in which ECG/EOG channels were included. In some of these recordings, the ECG channel records heartbeats with downward peaks instead of upward peaks. I have attached screenshots to explain what I mean by downward and upward peaks.

ECG channel with upward peaks:
upward

ECG channel with downward peaks:
downward

Would the ECG channel need to have heartbeats with upward peaks for the independent components (containing ECG artifacts) to be properly identified?

Information:

  • MNE version: 1.0.3
  • operating system: Windows 11
