Hi all,
How to define "n_components" in the following function:
mne.decoding.CSP(n_components=4, reg=None, log=None, cov_est='concat',
transform_into='average_power', norm_trace=False,
cov_method_params=None, rank=None)
Is it dependent on the number of classes i have?
can i have it to be more than 4? for example 25?
Is is dependent on the number of electrodes (channels) i have?
I would say neither. You can think of CSP a bit like PCA where instead of
maximizing the variance, you are trying to maximize the variance of the
difference between the two classes. Just as in PCA you need to select the
number of components for explaining your variance. But here you also have a
prediction task involved. Thus, if you capture two much of the difference
(too many components), you will overfit and if it's too few, you will
underfit. That's why we recommend setting this parameter by
cross-validation.
Dear all,
I would like to convert a bunch of FIF files (EpochsFIF) to the MNE-BIDS
format. I found the example: https://mne-tools.github.io/mne-bids/index.html that is relative to the
conversion from a Raw format. Apparently one cannot directly convert a
EpochsFIF to a Raw data file.
So I am wondering if it is possible to convert the EpochsFIF to Raw to
proceed with the conversion to MNE-BIDS format.
Best regards
How did you get the EpochsFIF file? Note that the BIDS format is only for
the raw data at the moment and it's not really meant for processed data.

Hi Mainak,
thank you for your prompt reply. Indeed, the EpochsFIF file comes from
processed TMS/EEG data (Channels x Time x Trials). Thus, from what you are
saying MNE-BIDS doesn't seem to be the way to go. Will look for some
alternatives then.
Thanks anyway

indeed there is a BIDS standard only for raw data at this stage. It's not
specific to mne-bids package.

what Mainak and Alex say is true ... however, if you are interested in
using BIDS for epoched data, we strongly encourage you to look into the
discussion on derivatives (including epochs) for electrophysiology data.
See this Google Doc, were active development of that part of BIDS takes
place:
New contributors are always welcome
Best,
Stefan
