Matching the FreeSurfer average brain with head shape measurements

Hi all,

I need to analyze data from subjects I don't have structural MRIs for.
Section 7.19 in the MNE manual suggests that "in some cases" the FreeSurfer
average brain can be used instead of a structural MRI. However, the average
brain is not transformed to fit the head shape measurements, which may pose
a problem if the subject's brain isn't the same size as the average brain.
Is there a way to apply this transformation? How big of a difference will it
make? And in general, is there any work discussing the impact of using the
average brain on the accuracy of localization?

Thanks,
Tal
