GSoC 2026 | MNE-Python Intro | Interested in Project 3 (EGIMFF Refactor)

Hello MNE-Python Community,

I’m Pragnya, a CS student based in Delhi, India. I’m writing to introduce myself as I prepare for GSoC 2026. I have a strong foundation in C++ and Qt, and I am currently deepening my knowledge of Python and Data Analytics.

I am particularly interested in Project 3: Refactor EGIMFF to use mffpy. My current personal project, Enviro-AI, involves processing time-series data from environmental sensors. While I am still in the development phase of that project, it has already shown me the challenges of robust data I/O, which is what drew me to MNE-Python’s engineering tasks.

I’ve already forked the repository and am currently building my local development environment. I’ve also been reading through the `mne/io/egi/` codebase and the previous discussions on Discourse regarding the `mffpy` integration and timestamp challenges.

I understand that this project values technical engineering and proactive engagement. Once my environment is stable, I plan to look into existing issues in the EGI reader to better understand the current implementation. If there are specific technical areas or edge cases the mentors suggest prioritizing for a refactor of this scope, I would be very interested to hear them.

Best, Pragnya [GitHub: PragnyaKhandelwal]
