Data Manager Position

https://www.raynorcerebellumproject.org/

The Raynor Cerebellum Project (RCP) is hiring a Data Manager to oversee a team of Research Data Support Specialists who will facilitate data management at our funded research sites. The RCP is anything but conventional and internally some of us are calling the roles you would manage “Data Concierges.” As you read more, you will understand why.

RCP is a philanthropy with the goal of improving the lives of patients with disorders of a part of the brain called the “cerebellum” and doing so soon. We fund multiple clinical teams that are recording extensive data from the brains of human patients who are in the hospital for their health care. We are aggregating the data in a central repository and performing machine learning and artificial intelligence analyses to create a foundation model of brain activity.

About the role:

As Data Manager you will oversee multiple employees and the entire data pipeline for all of our teams, from data acquisition and meta-data monitoring to final deposition of harmonized data in the RCP data repository. In this role, you’ll take ownership of data management work, contribute to technical direction, and partner closely with our data collection teams, RCP scientists, and data stakeholders to deliver impactful solutions.

This is an upper-level management role for a data scientist who has knowledge of data management, has experience managing big data in healthcare industries, can operate independently to manage ambiguity and apply knowledge of data management, coding, and neuroscience.

Why is this so important? Because data is the lifeblood of RCP and our research partners need to feel like the sharing of their data is seamless and even enjoyable. We are hiring “Data Concierges” to help our local sites and your job will be to oversee their work and manage them.

You will report to the Governing Board of the Raynor Cerebellum Project. Final location placement will be determined during the interview process.

Work Location: This position is an in-person position at our Chapel Hill, NC or Fort Worth, TX offices. It may include extensive travel.

Compensation: Compensation will be competitive with market standards for the role and will depend on the experience and skillset of the successful candidate.

Responsibilities:

  • Ownership of the full data management stream for multiple teams that are contributing data to the RCP data repository.
  • Oversee a team of Data Concierges whose job is to make it frighteningly simple for our multiple remote sites to share their data centrally. The Data Concierges (i) facilitate data collection and verify proper data and meta-data documentation during recordings in the epilepsy monitoring unit; (ii) maintain, deploy, and possibly help to develop or customize a pipeline for transforming data from the local format at their assigned site(s) into a harmonized format developed using the Brain Imaging Data Structure (BIDS) extended for iEEG data; and (iii) perform quality control checks on data, both as it is collected and as part of the transmission to the data repository.
  • Collaborate closely with our data management contractor and members of RCP teams.
  • Help ensure data science processes and outputs align with broader RCP and team strategies.
  • Contribute to improving data science practices, tooling, and documentation

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience in management of healthcare data science through employment in a relevant industry.
  • 5+ years of experience using modern computational tools to manage data.
  • Experience as a manager of a small to medium-sized team.
