The MNE-Python community will host a New Developers Code Sprint Monday 27 June - Friday 01 July 2022, online in our community’s Discord workspace.
The sprint is an opportunity for anyone who uses MNE-Python software — neuroscience students, clinical researchers, BCI enthusiasts, etc — to spend a week with the MNE core developers team, learning the ins and outs of open-source software development. Participants will engage in “pair programming” sessions with each other and with MNE-Python developers to fix bugs, implement new features, and improve our documentation. Along the way, participants can expect to learn about (and use) git, GitHub, virtual environments, IDEs, code linting, automated testing, and/or code optimization tools.
Accepted participants will be expected to spend at least 30 hours during the sprint week on MNE-Python development activities (approximately 6 hours/day; exact times are negotiable and will depend on participant and mentor time zones). Applicants also must agree to abide by the MNE-Python Code of Conduct during the sprint. After the conclusion of the sprint, participants will receive a stipend of US$500 (after completing the necessary wire transfer and tax forms).
To participate, you will need a GitHub account, webcam, microphone, speakers/headphones, a decent internet connection, and a computer running Linux, macOS, or Windows, on which you have the ability to install new software (it is not possible to participate using Google Colab, sorry). Applications will be accepted via this Google Form, and will require doing some software setup in advance. The form will close 15 May 2022, with accepted participants notified by 01 June 2022 at the latest. Questions about the application should be posted in our Discourse Forum and tagged with “sprint-question”.
