Is notch filtering a necessary step while preprocessing MEG data?

In the software “brainstorm”, it was mentioned as one of the main steps of preprocessing MEG data. However, in this tutorial, which I think can be used as a reference for preprocessing MEG data, notch filtering was not mentioned. I am wondering if other functions will substitute notch filtering or I have to include them in my analysis.

The tutorial you linked to is a high-level overview of some of the most common analysis steps, but it doesn’t cover everything. A better “reference for preprocessing MEG data” from our docs would be the tutorials in the preprocessing category. Notch filtering is discussed here.
