Magnetometer & Gradiometer Combination: Source Estimation

Hi all,

I have a question regarding combining sensor types in source estimation. I understand that the mags and grads become correlated with each other during Maxwell filtering; however, I’m not quite sure how the two sensor types are weighted/combined when it comes to source estimation. Also, at what point during a standard pipeline does this occur? (e.g. creation of inverse operator, application of inv operator, etc.) Any help would be greatly appreciated!

hi Chris,

this happens at the whitening stage via the noise covariance that contains but sensor types.
