LCMV on raw data

External Email - Use Caution

Hi!

I hope my question is understandable...

If one applies lcmv beamformer on raw data continous data (50 minutes of
registration) and chooses pick_ori='max_power', will the output be a
spatial filter of the maximum power source at each time point? That is,
will the spatial filter "move" across the cortex if the cortical source of
maximal power changes?

Hi Karin,

pick_ori=?max_power? does not find the source point with maximum power, but for each source point, the *orientation* of maximum power. See this tutorial for more information about what I mean with the ?orientation? of a source:

https://www.martinos.org/mne/stable/auto_tutorials/plot_dipole_orientations.html

The LCMV beamformer, applied to continuous data, will for each time point create a full source estimate for all source points along the cortex. So yes, you?ll be able to see the location of maximum power ?move? along the cortex.

Hope that helps!

Marijn.

Ok thank you. If one wanted to retrieve data from only one source (an
epileptic source) how should you do? That is not only for epochs, but for
continuous data?

Hi,

Anyone can help me to import .avg file from event related potential dataset
?

Thanks

Would it work if you just picked the source with maximum power? (computed for a sliding window across time)

But then the you would only pick the ?right? source when there were epileptic spikes? And not get the background activity in between spikes?
