You might not have an answer for this, but do you know if the Polhemus function works for the patriot system? One thing that the lab is having to do is flip the coordinates from the .elp or .res file obtained, saving it as .hpts file, then saving it as a dig.fif file for co-registration. Does the Polhemus function solve that problem?

https://mne.tools/stable/generated/mne.channels.read_dig_hpts.html#mne.channels.read_dig_hpts

you can also read the montage as a fif file with

https://mne.tools/stable/generated/mne.channels.read_dig_fif.html#mne.channels.read_dig_fif
