Hello

I am encountering issues launching mne-python after a first install on a new MacBookPro.
In Spyder console, the “import mne” command yields the errors message pasted below.

System info:

- MNE version: 1.9.0\_0
- operating system: macOS 15,5(24F74)
- Spyder 6

In Spyder, the python interpreter is listed as follows:
/Users/vv221713/Applications/MNE-Python/1.9.0\_0/.mne-python/bin/python

* * *

## Spyder console

- Python 3.12.7 | packaged by conda-forge | (main, Oct 4 2024, 15:57:01) [Clang 17.0.6]
Type “copyright”, “credits” or “license” for more information.
- IPython 8.17.2 – An enhanced Interactive Python. Type ‘?’ for help.

Importing the numpy C-extensions failed. This error can happen for
many reasons, often due to issues with your setup or how NumPy was
installed.

We have compiled some common reasons and troubleshooting tips at:

```
https://numpy.org/devdocs/user/troubleshooting-importerror.html
```

Please note and check the following:

- The Python version is: Python3.12 from “/Users/vv221713/Applications/MNE-Python/1.9.0\_0/.mne-python/bin/python”
- The NumPy version is: “1.26.4”

and make sure that they are the versions you expect.
Please carefully study the documentation linked above for further help.

Important
It seems you’re trying to use a module that doesn’t come with our installer. Check this FAQ in our docs to learn how to do this.

Hi Virginie,

please try again with the newest installer for 1.10.0, which seems to resolve this issue:

> [@ImportError with libgfortran.5.dylib causing numpy to fail and MNE 1.9.0 not to load](https://mne.discourse.group/t/importerror-with-libgfortran-5-dylib-causing-numpy-to-fail-and-mne-1-9-0-not-to-load/11095/7):

> Hello @jedmeltzer, I only have a MacBook Pro with an M2 chip available, running macOS Sequoia 15.5. No problems here with the 1.10.0 installer from: [https://github.com/mne-tools/mne-installers/releases/download/v1.10.0/MNE-Python-1.10.0\_0-macOS\_M1.pkg](https://github.com/mne-tools/mne-installers/releases/download/v1.10.0/MNE-Python-1.10.0_0-macOS_M1.pkg) May I ask which architecture you’re using? Intel or Apple Silicon? Have you tried with the new 1.10.0 installers? Thanks! Richard

Good luck!
Richard

Thank you, Richard.
I used the mne-installer 1.10.0\_0 but there’s no bin in the 1.10.0\_0 folder.
How do I specify a python interpreter to an IDE?
Cheers,
Virginie

Hello, launch the `Prompt (MNE)` and look for `Using Python: ...` in the output.

See:

> **[IDE integration (VSCode, Spyder, etc.) — MNE 1.10.0 documentation](https://mne.tools/stable/install/ides.html#ide-setup)**

Best wishes,
Richard

Beautiful, it looks I am all set now! Thanks @richard

This bit should be integrated on the IDE instructions: “launch the `Prompt (MNE)` and look for `Using Python: ...` in the output.” _(I am a newbie on Apple 😉_

Great to hear it’s working for you now!

The information **is** already in the documentation but apparently easy to miss. I might take a look at how we can improve this.

Thanks and have a great Sunday!
